As a volunteer, you would be expected to be "on duty" for half of the duration of the event, the other half of the day is yours to enjoy the event
While "on duty" we would expect you to:
- Have the provided radio switched on and on your person at all times
- Respond to any requests via radio as appropriate
- Support guests in finding new people to work with
- Be available and visible to guests, answer questions where possible, or discuss with the hosts if unable to answer
- Direct guests if asked, and make them aware of any off limits areas
- Help out guests where reasonable (i.e. holding flashes, swooshing capes, telling them they look fantastic etc.)
- Ensure guests do not remove or damage items or parts of the venue
- Keeping an eye on, and challenging inappropriate behaviour
There may be venue specific requirements alongside these, however these would be detailed before the event.
Why do we need an application?
We want to make sure that we get the right people for the job. We don't require specific experience, although this would be helpful, what we are looking for it a willingness to help our guests and approach incidents sensibly. The application does have some scenarios, you don't need to write an entire story for these, just a sentence or two to briefly explain how you would approach the situation
What next?
Once we have reviewed your application we will let you know if you are successful. This does not mean that you will be volunteering at a specific event, we will discuss these individually with you.Should you not be successful, don't be disheartened! You can still attend our events as a guest, and we are more than happy to talk to you about the areas we feel need improvement, and you can always re-apply in the future!
